CERAMICS . . . is where I am today . . . but:

AUTOMATA is where I stuck my fork into making anything crafty or arty. I chose it in January of 2010. Automata is merely mechanized sculpture. You turn the crank and something moves. My medium was wood; basswood to be exact. I whittled a little, bled quite a bit and made gears and cams. The unavailability or easily accessibility (Asheville is in the mountains)of metal screws alone sapped that interest. There is no way I could maintain my enthusiasm while waiting three or four days for the arrival of a small box of whatever I was in need of. The economics became dull. Anyway, here are a few pieces from my mechanical beginnings . . .

So I took the mechanics away.  Which left just the basswood and . . .

When basswood priced itself out of my work space, I switched to Paper Mache. It was only wet news paper and could be considered as being part of the wood family in some remote way. It was fast, fun and cheap enough to attempt and abandon projects without remorse.

All the work above only leads to my making ceramic sculptures, where I am today. They were selected for your review more because they fit the design of this page than they are absolutely a history. The progress toward better work is a continuing goal. Stay tuned. Life is a morph.
